Boys Will Be Boys

Grady Lee, as he is ripping off another circle from his countdown-until-Baby-Sister-arrives paper chain: "Are we one day closer to the chainsaw cutting you open to get our baby sister out?"

Me: Silent. Simply silent. Where does the child come up with this stuff?!

Micah, after using the potty: "I'm a big boy, right Mom? Cause I use the potty and don't need diapers."

Me: "That's right buddy! You are a big boy and I am so proud of you!"

Micah: "Yeah, but our Baby Sister won't be a big boy and will wear a diaper. She won't get any treats cause she won't use the potty, right?"

Me: "That's right. But, when she gets older we'll teach her to use the potty too, and we'll all get excited when she can have a treat for being a big girl!"

Micah, while clutching his container of M&Ms: "I won't be excited, Mom. All the treats are supposed to be for me."

Micah, after being disciplined for jumping on the couch: "When I disobey I have sin in my heart, don't I?"

Me: "Yes, that's right."

Micah: "But that's okay, cause I'm still very handsome, right Mom?"

Me: "Um, no, well yes, but really, no..."

Grady Lee: "I have big muscles, right Mom?"

Me: "You sure do! Wowsers!"

Grady Lee: "I'm almost stronger than you, right Mom?"

Me: "Almost. Someday soon you will be for sure!"

Grady Lee: "Yeah, and then I can lift all the heavy things for you, right Mom?"

Me: "Yes. That will be very helpful, Buddy."

Grady Lee: "Yeah, cause girls aren't very strong and they need boys to help them, right Mom?"

Me: "Um, yes, and no, and... boys and girls need each other. That's why Jesus made two kinds of people."

Grady Lee: "Not me Mom. I don't need girls. Soon I'll show my Baby Sister how strong I am and that I don't need her either, right Mom?"

Me: Again, silent. Simply silent. Where does the child come up with this stuff?!

  1. Oh my goodness, Sarah, your boys are TOO precious! I love these little conversations that you have captured...little glimpses right into the heart of a child...but Praise God that you are teaching & instructing them in Truth, because when you really think about it, there are a lot of grown-ups who think the same way about things that Grady Lee & Micah (and all kids) do...except for maybe the chainsaw part ;-)

  2. Me-let me cut off the tags from your new stuffed animal.

Alden-Let's leave the tags on, it shows where it's from and that it's expensive.
