The Simple Things

On Sundays, it usually takes 20 minutes to drive to our church. On Wednesdays, it usually takes 30-40 minutes to drive to our church because of rush hour traffic. This past Wednesday, it took us 50 minutes to get to church because of an accident and rush hour traffic.

When we finally arrived to church on Wednesday evening, I admit I was not in a happy-go-lucky mindset that was ready to teach and demonstrate patience to my small group of three and four year old Gopher Buddies.

But (there is always a "but"), when I arrived at church I was greeted by a friend sipping coffee from Starbucks. She had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. "I grabbed coffee on my way here and thought I'd get you a Peppermint Mocha. You still like those, right?"

I just stared at her.

And then I hugged her.

And then I hugged her again. And again.

I was frazzled and frustrated. She was calm and relaxed. Her gesture of love and thoughtfulness - this Simple Thing - made my evening. In fact, it made my week because here I am on Friday and I'm still thinking about it.

Lesson to anyone reading: the Simple Things you do to show love or encourage others will carry power and benefit beyond what you intend. (Thanks Rebecca!)

What about you - what Simple Thing made your week?

  1. Sarah - it was my Simple Thing to see your smile - if I know something that someone likes I usually try and remember. I really needed that Chai Tea that night to keep me going - glad the mocha helped you as well :)
