Pwetty and Yummy Houses

The boys and I - actually the kids and I - visited the Ballantyne Resort to see their gingerbread house display. (I'm so used to saying the "the boys and I" and since Annalyse is usually asleep when we're out and about it still feels like just "the boys and I.")

Before going in, I told the boys we were going into a nice place where there were mostly adults and that this wasn't a place for little boys to be loud or silly. I asked them to please use indoor voices (impossible task #1) and to walk close to me by the stroller (impossible task #2).

We entered the sliding doors and were greeted by an enormous Christmas tree, dim lights, and elegant furniture. Grady Lee, in a bare whisper, said "Mom! This place sure is special and clean!" I had a good laugh about that... I guess I don't take him to too many "fancy" places.

The gingerbread houses were amazing. A.MAZING! Such detail and creativity in each display.
I instituted the hands-in-the-pockets rule and we managed to enjoy our time there without being responsible for destroying or tipping (or eating!) any of the houses.
The boys enjoyed going from house to house and declaring that "this house is my ffaaaavvoorriitttee!" only to run to the next house and declare it their new favorite.
Like usual, Annalyse slept and missed all the fun. No worries, we'll be back next year and by then she'll be an antsy, toddling one-year old anxious to touch everything.
It was impossible to choose a favorite because each one was so different. I'm still partial to the gingerbread house we put together at home. The globby mess is still standing tall and proudly displayed for all to see!
This was Grady Lee's favorite. I asked him why and he answered, "Because it's pwetty with lots of snow and I like snow."
Aahhh... holiday fun. Just a few days left to make the most of the fun, Christmasy things!

  1. 1. I love that your boys are almost always wearing hats. My boys never go anywhere without a hat on.
    2. Annalyse is just precious. Love the pink bow.
    3. I sure wish we lived closer so we could do all of these "Christmasy" things together.
I think our kids would get along so well as would the mommies:) Merry Christmas, Sarah!! I understand fully about being away from family at Christmas. I am so thankful for my in-laws, but we all know it's just not the same, especially at the Holidays.

  2. Love all of the pictures of the gingerbread houses, as we have yet to make it to this exhibit! Looks like your boys had a great time & were so well behaved! Way to go boys (and Annalyse, too!)

  3. Awww...what FUN! We were there just the other night too! I was amazed at some of those beautiful houses made by some very talented people!

  4. It looks like you guys had a great time. We had planned to go the first day of the exhibit but I was chicken that one of our kids would break, tip or eat one of the houses as well. I am glad I am not the only ones who knows what my "angels" are capable of!
