Twenty One Weeks

Goodness gracious, it's the middle of August and here I am crossing off week 21 on my pregnancy countdown. Apparently the fourth time is a charm because I have felt the best this time around. (Translation: the vomiting has been minor, the weight gain has been steady, and the fatigue has been manageable.) December will be here before I know it and our fun family of five will be an even funner family of six. (Yes, funner is a word. My spell check didn't underline it with a squiggly red line so it must be a real word.)
All of us crammed into the ultrasound room this week to measure and screen Baby's anatomy. I'm thrilled to say that as of now, our little one is healthy as can be with no observable and noticeable concerns or developmental issues. A silent sigh of relief and an audible thank you, Jesus!
Last week our family took turns completing a poster board chart about Baby #4: gender, weight, length, hair, etc. The boys and I were convinced the baby was a boy, while Grady and Annalyse were determined it was a girl. Today's ultrasound settled that debate - and images were crystal clear so there was no debate.
Now that gender is known I've moved into Operation: Get Things Out of the Attic and Organized. Much to donate; much to consign; and much to keep and wash and organize. Nesting is happening full steam ahead.
Annalyse is almost as giddy as I am, I think. She oohs and aahs about each teeny tiny outfit we pull out of a bin. She smiles and plays with all the rattles and teethers we've uncovered. She's pushed buttons on the swing and sat in the infant car seat. She is ready to be a big sister. And, super ready to help.
She's already shared that "I'll buckle the baby in the seat" and that "I'll push the stroder" and that she wants to "rock in the rocker and sing my ABCs when the baby cries." Perfect - I've got a mother's helper under my own roof.
Now that I'm past the 20-week mark, I consider the remaining 20ish weeks the home stretch. When I begin each pregnancy, so sick and so tired, the halfway point seems elusive and oh-so-far-away. Not anymore. Baby #4, mom can't wait to meet you. To hold you and kiss you and cherish you!

Oh - and for those that are wondering. Baby #4 is a BOY. Another handsome, energetic, always moving, generally rough, usually loud Peeler Boy is joining our family. And we couldn't be happier!

  6. I agree welcome to three boys and a girl club! Pretty awesome club to belong to. As I look at your pictures and as I reflect on today, the day I took Adam to college, I can only say that if I had it all to do again I would take more time to focus on that one day. This is something very hard to do when you have four little ones to take care of but I can't believe how fast the time has gone. I told Doug today that I am going to focus more time on Michael over the next three years because that is all the time I have left before he too goes off to college and I'm left with an empty nest. Congratulations to all.of you! We love you and miss you here in Michigan.

  9. Thanks, friends, for your kind and thoughtful words! A momma can never hear enough "positive's" in the midst of growing large and feeling, ahem, hormonally challenged. :)
