The Simple Things

1. Air conditioning

Temps hung in the mid-90s all week. Earlier this week, the kids and I visited an 18th century farm. As I stood there sweating in my tank top, shorts, and flip-flops while sipping my ice-cold water, I couldn't help but imagine being the wife of that farmer. Wearing an ankle-length dress and petticoats. Cooking over a hot fire. Hoeing the vegetable garden. Milking the cows. And going to bed at night without a cold shower or fan overhead.

Yes, the Simple Thing of air conditioning is huge.

2. Growing minds

The other day before lunch, Micah prayed, "Dear Jesus. Please help Pharoah let the people go so they don't have to stay in Egypt. You're powerful and can do that, Jesus, so please help them. And, help there not be a tsunami in Egypt. Amen."

I laughed out loud. I couldn't help it. But I was also happy to see his heart and mind growing and learning about the Bible and the world around him.

What about you - what Simple Things are you thankful for this week?
