Winter Wonderland

True to the much-talked about and heavily anticipated hype, we got snow. A little bit of snow. First thing after breakfast on Saturday morning and the boys were pounding the slider door asking to go out. (Actually, I think Micah was licking the door and squealing that "the window is cold!" Gross, I know.)

We bundled up and trudged out. Grady Lee had a riot and would have stayed out for hours. Micah just whined and wanted to be held. In his short two years of life, each time that kid is introduced to snow he cries and asks to go in. But, because it took 20 minutes to get ready to go out and play, I required that he stay out for at least 20 minutes. That's fair, right?

Under the fine layer of snow was a thin layer of ice. The boys thought it was super cool that we walked in the road and "skated" down the hill.

Our attempts at a snowman were difficult since it wasn't really packing snow. But, for two toddlers, it didn't take much to pacify them. They actually thought this was pretty cool, and as I stuck in sticks for arms, I heard Grady Lee singing, "Frosty the Snowman was a jooollly man..." Pretty cute.

We don't own a sled, but I think it's time to buy one. Even if it only snows once a year, it would be a fun thing to have. Not wanting to be jipped out of the opportunity to slide though, we made do with a boogie-board. Worked like a charm. Again, for a toddler, it doesn't take much.

We came in from the cold and the boys took naps. I got busy in the kitchen and made cheesy-potato-bacon-broccoli soup (an invention of sorts) and some homemade bread. Although I thought it was the perfect dinner for a cold, snowy evening, it goes without saying that the rest of my family was less than impressed.

Before going to bed on Saturday, we discovered that church would be cancelled today. Grady and I rolled our eyes and gave each other knowing looks... we are in the South, after all.

We woke up this morning and held our own church service. Who knew that Little People toys could work so well for telling the story of Noah's Ark and Daniel in the Lions Den? After "church" it was time to head outside again since the snow will likely be almost gone after today.

We took a long walk and enjoyed playing and laughing and jumping and sliding.

We were actually hot after all the running around we were doing and needed to strip off some of the gloves and hats.

Despite being a lot warmer today, Micah still pouted a majority of the time and made it clear he did not like snow.

And Grady and I enjoyed a walk together too. You know, the rare five minutes of holding hands without kids begging to be held or played with is a special time.

  1. we've been having fun in the snow too! No sledding hill here, though we got 4 inches up our way! Yesterday was running around and making tracks and snowangels, today however the snow was great for snowmen and snowball fights, Alden knocked our snowmen down however before heading in for hot chocolate...

  3. I would just like to say that it has rarely been above 20 degrees here for the last several weeks. If you would like snow we could send you as many truck loads as you desire!

  4. Looks like you had a great time! Olivia is the same as Micah - cold & whining - we lasted about 15 minutes and then brought bowls of snow to the kitchen table and played with it on cookie sheets until it melted - that lasted over an hour!

  5. Y'all are so spiritual! Does blasting worship music count as a service?? :-) We are w/you and the boogie boards...you'd think after three years of using those we'd finally go out and get a real sled. Oh well! If it ain't broke don't fix it - right?? :-)
